Sailing with whales

Hamilton Island is hardly a wintery spot, sharing the same relative latitude as Hawaii, so you won't find ice in the rigging on the race boats here - just warm winds pushing some cool boats around the waters off Queensland.  Of course, you will also find whales, as this event is viewed not only by sailing fans, but by humpback whales and their calves as well, who make the area home between May and September.
Over 200 boats competed in the various races at Hamilton Island Race Week this year, further establishing this as Australia's largest offshore yachting regatta.
